The Club at Mediterra (Naples, Fla.) has announced the commencement of reconstruction of its South Course, marking the first phase of a broader initiative to refine and enhance the club’s golf experience while investing in its long-term future.
Framed by a continued commitment to excellence, the project reflects Mediterra’s focus on ensuring its golf courses remain central to the club’s identity—both as premier playing environments and as defining elements of the community’s lifestyle.
“This is about more than a renovation,” says Carmen Mauceri, CCM, ECM, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of The Club at Mediterra. “It’s a thoughtful investment in who we are and where we’re going, ensuring our courses continue to serve as the crown jewels of the Mediterra experience for years to come.”
The South Course reconstruction is guided by a comprehensive evaluation conducted in partnership with leading industry experts, including the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Fazio Group, the original architects of Mediterra’s golf courses. Together, these efforts are shaping a plan that enhances long-term course conditions, playability and enjoyment, while preserving the natural landscape and supporting the club’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, including its Silver Audubon designation.
The South Florida USGA conducted an in-depth agronomic analysis of the course, evaluating greens, turf health, cart paths and overall playability. The review also included a detailed assessment of trees, shrubs and surrounding landscape conditions, with a focus on airflow, sunlight and accessibility factors that influence turf performance throughout the year.
Building on these findings, the Fazio Group developed recommendations to refine the architectural elements of the course, including enhancements to greens, bunkers and surrounding features, all while maintaining the course’s established character, aesthetic and level of play.
Planned improvements include the complete renovation of all green complexes, reshaping of greenside and fairway bunkers, and regrassing of fairways and rough. Additional work will address turf conditions through targeted treatments and selective landscape modifications designed to improve long-term turf health and playability.
“This initiative reflects a careful balance of preservation and progress,” Mauceri says. “Every decision has been made with intention—enhancing performance while respecting the natural beauty and design integrity that define Mediterra.”
The project is progressing as scheduled, with completion anticipated in early November.
