After the Renovation Comes the Hard Part

After The Country Club at Castle Pines $20M renovation, the club's next phase focused on leadership, alignment, and operations.

By Joanna DeChellis, Editorial Director, Club + Resort Business | May 18, 2026

For the last several years, clubs have been operating in a near-constant state of change.

Major capital projects reshaped properties across the country. New pools, fitness centers, casual dining venues, outdoor spaces, and social amenities have come online quickly, often alongside rising expectations from members about service, programming, and year-round activity.

What received less attention was the operational work required to support all of it.

That is beginning to change.

Increasingly, clubs are turning their attention toward the systems behind the member experience: governance structure, financial modeling, leadership alignment, accountability, communication, and long-term planning. The work is less visible than a renovation unveiling, but no less consequential.

That shift is one reason The Country Club at Castle Pines was selected as Club + Resort Business’s latest cover profile. The club’s $20 million renovation expanded what the property could offer members. The more complicated challenge of building an operation capable of sustaining it came afterward.

“We’re coming out of the fix-it phase,” says General Manager/COO Perry Kenney, CCM. “We’re moving into the refine-it phase.”
