After various news outlets reported that the Olympic decathlete’s transition to a new female identity would create problems with how she could use the facilities at the private club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., where Jenner has been a member for over 15 years, a club representative issued a statement that “reporting of discord between Ms. Jenner and this club is entirely false,” and that Jenner “has and continues to be a valued and long-term member.”
Shortly after the Vanity Fair article was released revealing Olympic decathlete champion Bruce Jenner’s transition to a female identity, Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., where Jenner has been a member for over 15 years, issued a statement to deny reports that the transition would create tensions related to how Caitlyn Jenner would now be able to use the club’s facilities.
Various news outlets reported after the release of the Vanity Fair article that Jenner’s transition would create problems because Sherwood CC includes partially segregated social spaces, including male-only eating facilities that would presumably now bar Jenner as a woman.
But in a statement sent to The Hollywood Reporter, a representative for the country club said, “”Sherwood Country Club was very disappointed and surprised to learn of various news reports dated June 2, 2015. Reporting of discord between Ms. Jenner and this club is entirely false. Bruce Jenner has and continues to be a valued and long term member at the Club.”
“The Club was never contacted and had no input into stories about Caitlyn Jenner,” the statement continued. “Sherwood Country Club cherishes its members, and their privacy, and will not comment on anything regarding its members’ private use and enjoyment of the Club, including Caitlyn Jenner’s future use of the Club.”
“Sherwood is very proud of the wonderful facilities it offers both its male and female members and their guests,” the statement continued. “There will be no further comment from the Club.”
According to Golf.com, Jenner, who picked up golf at age 50, now plays with an impressive 5.3 handicap.
