Yurok Tribe Purchases Bigfoot G&CC

By C&RB Staff | September 2, 2022

The tribe has plans to revamp the 90-acre Willow Creek, Calif. property and has long-term goals of creating a nine-hole golf course, clubhouse with a restaurant and banquet room, 18 mobile home spaces, a seven-unit RV park, and two houses. Frankie Myers, the President of the Yurok Tribe Construction Corporation, says the organization is “uniquely equipped to transform the course into a world-class golfing destination.”

The Yurok Tribe has plans to revamp the Bigfoot Golf & Country Club in Willow Creek, Calif., KRCR reported. The tribe’s construction corporation purchased the 90-acre property located near the Trinity Wild and Scenic River on Sept. 1 and has long-term goals of creating a nine-hole golf course, clubhouse with a restaurant and banquet room, 18 mobile home spaces, a seven-unit RV park and two houses.

“Together, the Yurok Tribe Construction Corporation, Yurok Economic Development Corporation and Yurok Agricultural Corporation are uniquely equipped to transform the course into a world-class golfing destination, including a family friendly tap room and restaurant for Humboldt residents and visitors alike,” said Frankie Myers, the President of the Yurok Tribe Construction Corporation in a statement.

According to the tribe, the first phase of the project will focus on turning the existing restaurant into a tap room inspired by Mad River Brewing Company Tap Room in Blue Lake, Calif., KRCR reported. The Yurok Economic Development Corporation and the Yurok Agricultural Corporation will collaborate with the construction corporation to modernize the area. Mad River Brewing Company COO Linda Cooley will be leading the development of the new tap room, which will offer meals paired with Mad River Brewing Company drinks.

The tribe also has plans to add a venue to the property for live music and other events, KRCR reported. The second phase of the project will consist of a major remodel of the old golf course, featuring new tee boxes, fairways and putting greens.

Members of the tribe, including Chairman Joseph James, are championing the purchase for its ability to bring jobs and boost revenue.

“This acquisition is part of our long-term plan to develop a diverse economic development portfolio and provide jobs for our people, whether they live on or off of the reservation,” James said. “I am proud of the progress we have made in terms of providing employment opportunities and services to the Yurok families in the Willow Creek area.”
