Even with a fresh blanket of snow concealing the fact that all 18 holes on the Greg Norman signature course have been shaped, progress continues on the new Teton Rim Course at River Rim Ranch in Tetonia, Idaho. Ground was broken for the course in 2007 and it is targeted to open in the summer of 2010.
Situated at an elevation of over 6,300 ft. in the Teton Valley of Idaho, the Teton Rim Course will play to well over 8,000 yards from the back tees. Multiple sets of tees (up to 8 sets on one hole) will provide players with flexibility in choosing the length of course they prefer to play. This same flexibility will also provide the staff at Teton Rim with the ability to set up the course in unique ways for tournaments and daily play. Wide fairways and large, closely mown areas around the greens coupled with firm and fast playing conditions will also lend to the ‘links’ feel that the course embraces.
Next up for the construction of the course will be the installation of drainage and irrigation, then the replacement of over 500,000 cubic yards of topsoil that was stockpiled, prior to the shaping of the course, from the farmland that previously occupied the site. Grassing will then commence, with much of the 350-acre site being put back into native grasses and habitat that existed on the property prior to generations of agricultural use.
“I believe that the Teton Rim course will become one of the most photographed courses in the country from the day it opens,” says Sean Cracraft, General Manager at River Rim Ranch. “The amount of brainstorming that has gone into the course and clubhouse, and even how we will operate the club, is beyond anything I have ever experienced.”
