The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. is set for a sheriff’s sale on January 28. A foreclosure of the property was filed in October 2019, stating that $4.2 million owed to Wisconsin Bank and Trust was in default. Its golf course was named Best New Daily-Fee in America after opening in 2005.
The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, a nationally acclaimed golf course in Sheboygan Falls, Wis., is scheduled for a sheriff’s sale on January 28, the Sheboygan Press reported.
A foreclosure of the property was filed in October 2019, stating the property known popularly as “The Bull” defaulted on $4.2 million owed to Wisconsin Bank and Trust, according to court documents, the Press reported.
At the end of December, the bank’s attorney, Richard Hahn, filed a letter with the judge saying that both parties agreed that a sheriff’s sale would be “mutually advantageous.”
“From the bank’s standpoint, it’s always an advantage to try to get [lawsuits for foreclosure] over with as quickly as possible,” Hahn said.
The Press reported that it left messages with David Bachmann, the current owner of The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, but was unable to reach him.
The club has had financial troubles before, receiving a foreclosure notice in February 2011, the Press reported.
Chad Sandee, PGA, the club’s Head Golf Professional, told the Press that employees are hopeful, but have no guarantee of what the future will look like.
At the sheriff’s sale, the highest bidder will be awarded the property but will not be allowed to take ownership until the court determines that it was sold for a fair value, the Press reported. If the sale is approved, the money will go to the bank and the bidder will receive a sheriff’s deed.
Hahn told the Press that Wisconsin Bank and Trust hasn’t yet determined if it will bid on the property. “That’s something that the bank has to assess and that may change, depending on the level of interest in the property,” he said, noting that he expects there to be “a number of people” at the sale interested in bidding.
The Sheboygan County (Wis.) Sheriff’s Department has posted notices of the sale in the municipal building in Sheboygan Falls and in the county administration building in Sheboygan, the Press reported.
According to the Nicklaus Design website, The Bull at Pinehurst Farms has the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in Wisconsin, the Press reported. The course was named “Best New Daily-Fee Course in America” in 2005 by Golfweek and has made the magazine’s list of “America’s Best Courses You Can Play” every year since then.
While the course is now closed for the winter, the pro shop has remained open, and Sandee told the Press he expects it to remain open until the sale at the end of the month.
