The state Department of Business and Professional Regulation is seeking to revoke the liquor license of Wildwood Country Club (Crawfordville, Fla.), a move that could spell financial doom for the club, which is co-owned by Wakulla County Sheriff David Harvey reports the Tallassee Democrat.
In a certified letter sent earlier this month, department officials charged Wildwood Golf Operations LLC with three counts of violating state liquor laws for not disclosing Harvey’s financial ties to the club and lying about it on its license application. As a law-enforcement officer, Harvey is forbidden from having an ownership interest in establishments that serve alcohol.
The sheriff is a partner in Wildwood Golf LLC, which owns the club — not the operating company, which holds the liquor license. But an extensive investigation by state Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco found that Harvey has been directly financing the club’s operation.
According to the Democrat, Wildwood Golf Operations LLC has 21 days to respond to the complaint. Company officials can either: enter into a settlement agreement, pay a $750 fine and give up the liquor license; request an informal hearing to seek a reduced penalty; or request a formal hearing before the Division of Administrative Hearings.
