A plan to overhaul the Hurley, Miss., golf course’s clubhouse is being considered by the county. The overhaul would also include shifting the driving range tee, paving and reorganizing the parking lot, and adding a new putting green.
Jackson County, Miss., is considering a $1.3 million overhaul of Whispering Pines Golf Course in Hurley, Miss., the Gulfport (Miss.) Sun Herald reported.
The clubhouse would look like a Southern country home, built off the ground with a front and back porch, designed to have a welcoming, country feel. When golfers walk in, they would see through the building to the greens, the Sun Herald reported.
“It’s a hidden gem,” architects on the project told Jackson County supervisors.
The revamp also would include shifting the driving range tee to the north, paving and reorganizing the parking lot and a new putting green, the Sun Herald reported.
The popular county golf course draws many of its customers from Mobile. One idea behind the new clubhouse design would be to attract lunch customers from the Hurley and East Central area, the Sun Herald reported.
Nathan Crace, with Watermark design, and Mark Lishen with Eley Guild Hardy architects said the project could be done in two phases, the Sun Herald reported.
County Administrator Brian Fulton said the decades-old clubhouse is in disrepair and the county needs to decide whether to put money into it or build new, the Sun Herald reported.
Supervisors said they would consider funding this summer, when they begin next year’s budget, which begins October 1, the Sun Herald reported.
