Multimillion-dollar investments are being made by a number of resort and hotel properties to extend their busy seasons.
Hotelmanagement.net has listed a number of resort and hotel properties that are investing in water park developments designed to extend their busy periods.
Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon Township, N.J., is looking to build a $150 million indoor water park and hotel, the website said, quoting NJ.com, which stated the project includes a 100,000-sq.-ft. water park, a 40,000 sq.-ft. extreme sports-type camp, and 60,000 square feet of convention space.
“This is one part of a larger, half-a-billion-dollar development we’ll be doing that will be part of a whole ski village,” said Mountain Creek CEO Andrew Mulvihill.
To pay for the investment, the company will be receiving $40 million from foreign investors and $25 million to $28 million through floating bonds, with the rest being financed from capital markets.
Another water park-related hotel project that is picking up traction is the development of a new Holiday Inn property that will be part of the RAIN waterpark complex in Sandusky, Ohio. According to the Sandusky Register, work will begin in mid- to late September, and the hotel will join a Quality Inn & Suites, which is already operating within the park.
The new hotel will have 73 rooms and suites, including 20 business class suites and two penthouse suites. There is 2,000 square feet of meeting space, including an executive boardroom, and plans have been made for an indoor pool and fitness room.
A new Watermark hotel is also coming to the Camelback Resort in Tannersville, Pa. Revealed in early August, the eight-story, 453-room Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark will open March 2015.
According to Alpine Zone, the hotel will have multiple dining options, ski-in/ski-out access, adult and kids’ spas, and 20,000 square feet of meeting and entertainment space. Additionally, the property will have a 125,000-sq.-ft. Aquatopia water park.
Lastly, the former Rainbow Centre mall in Niagara Falls will be transformed into a hotel and water park destination. The hotel property will have 300 rooms, restaurants, a spa, an indoor water park and an adventure center. Uniland Development heads the operation.
“We want to make sure whatever we put in here, whether it be the theme of the water park, or the themes of the restaurants, they complement Niagara Falls and the history of Niagara Falls,” Michael Montante, vice president of Uniland Development, told The Buffalo News.
