Wanakah Country Club in Hamburg, N.Y. will hold its fifth annual golf marathon, “The Walk Fore Luca & Carly” on July 16th, beginning at 5:30 a.m. The charity event will have sixteen players this year, including a 13-year-old, who will play and walk the 100 holes of golf in a one-day tournament.
Proceeds from the event, raised through pledges accepted for the marathon either as a single amount, or per birdie in the combined 1,600 holes, benefit two charities serving Wanakah’s Western New York community and beyond.
The Courage of Carly Fund (http://courageofcarlyfund.org.) provides children with cancer and blood disorders at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, N.Y. with everything from unforgettable memories and family events to financial support.
The Luca S. Calanni Foundation, also known as “Live Like Luca” (www.livelikeluca.com), was formed in honor of Luca Calanni, the son of Wanakah CC members Ashley and Bodge Calanni. Luca suddenly and tragically passed away from complications of the flu in January at the age of 11. Luca loved the life he had and appreciated all of the opportunities afforded to him that so many other children don’t have access to, and The Luca S. Calanni Foundation has been formed to live out his legacy.
Last year’s golf-marathon event at Wanakah CC raised over $47,000, and with 16 participants this year, the hope is to grow that number significantly. This year’s goal is $60,000 and as the week of the tournament began, over $57,000 had already been raised.
Pledges are accepted for the golf marathon either as a single amount, or per birdie in the combined 1,600 holes. More Information can be found on the fundraising site give.roswellpark.org/goto/wanakahcc or by contacting Jackie at [email protected].
