It happens two or three times a week. You get in bed, turn off the light and wait to fall asleep … and wait … and wait. It might be two or three hours before you drop off. And even then, you may wake up a couple of hours later and go through the whole thing again. And you’re not alone. According to the U.S. National Sleep Foundation, about 60% of American adults experience insomnia every few days, and about a third go through this torment every night.
With its eyes opened wide to the possibilities presented by this potential market, The Spa at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach has introduced a sleep therapy program geared especially for guests battling sleep disorders or insomnia—and to turn all that exhaustion into a new revenue stream. Designed to induce slumber and help patients sleep more soundly, the spa’s treatment course is based on the instruction of nationally acclaimed sleep therapist, Robert de Stefano.
“This is progressive, new-age therapy for an age-old problem affecting millions of people around the country,” says Sonia Thomasino, Membership Sales and Marketing Director. “We are pleased to offer help to residents in Northeast Florida suffering from the frustrations of sleeplessness.”
De Stefano visited the Spa at Sawgrass a few months prior to the program’s introduction, to facilitate a sleep skills workshop with a group of 50 guests. During his time there, he trained a group of Spa at Sawgrass therapists on his massage protocol for the “Sleep Escape Meeting,” which will be featured on the spa’s new 2009 menu.
