The Troon-managed property in Elyria, Ohio, featuring the only Nicklaus Design daily-fee course in northern Ohio, is set on the site of the former Spring Valley Country Club. The 24,000-sq. ft. clubhouse includes the Black River Tavern, which will be open year-round for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the club has also teamed with a local brewery to create a special Valley of the Eagles Pilsner that is being made available in cans and on tap.
The Valley of the Eagles Golf Club in Elyria, Ohio, the only Nicklaus Design daily-fee course in northern Ohio, opened on August 8th for golf and dining. The first level of the club’s 24,000 sq.-ft. clubhouse was fully operational for the opening.
C&RB reported on the planned opening last September (http://clubandresortbusiness.com/2017/07/valley-eagles-gc-open-august-5/)
Set on the site of the former Spring Valley Country Club, Valley of the Eagles, which is being managed by Troon, was completely redesigned by the team from Nicklaus Design. Last summer, the course opened for a short “preview window” with limited amenities while crews completed construction of the clubhouse. A few enhancements were since made to the golf course while the clubhouse was finished.
Designed to capture the beauty of the Black River Valley, the golf course plays to a par of 72 and measures 6,941 yards from the tips. The course meanders through the Black River Valley’s sheer black-shale cliffs and along the Black River, with mature elm, oak and ash trees lining the fairways.
The Valley of the Eagles clubhouse features a dining option for golfers and non-golfers at the Black River Tavern. Open year-round for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Tavern offers a comfortable atmosphere with handcrafted walnut tables, wood accents from timber harvested from the area, and natural stonework.
The Tavern’s lunch and dinner menus offer a mixture of farm-fresh salads, sharable appetizers, gourmet burgers, artisan-prepared meats and homemade desserts. The food is paired with signature, cocktails, wines, and a rotating craft-beer selection.
The club has teamed with a local brewery, Sibling Revelry Brewing, to create a special Valley of the Eagles Pilsner brewed exclusively for the club; the pilsner is available in a 16-oz. can for on-course consumption and also available on tap in the Black River Tavern.
In addition to dining at the Black River Tavern, the clubhouse also features three state-of-the-art golf simulators for year-round and multi-course use.
“We’re excited to unveil the completed Valley of the Eagles Golf Club to Cleveland-area golfers,” said General Manager Ray Metz. “Our team has worked hard over the last two-plus years to deliver incredible golf, club and dining experiences that are unmatched in Northern Ohio.”
Valley of the Eagles is located at the intersections of three highways, 25 miles west of downtown Cleveland on the border of Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Daily-fee rates range from $35 to $60 and include a golf cart. The club also offers an annual-pass program for unlimited golf.
