Two different country clubs — one in Nevada and the other in Arizona — had their clubhouse renovations designed by PHX Architecture.
The management at the Club at ArrowCreek in Reno, Nev., chose PHX, along with Greey|Pickett, to design the first phase of the complete renovation and expansion of the facility. The Club at ArrowCreek, which is owned by Ray and Jeanne Conrad, is a 36-hole private country club that was designed by Arnold Palmer.
For this design phase, the grounds to the rear of the existing clubhouse were modified to include a landscape water feature, revised practice putting green, new chipping green, new bocce ball court and event lawn, golf performance building, a pool with pool deck area, and a pool building.
The pool building is 9,400 sq ft. under the roof and houses the pool equipment, restrooms, locker rooms, and commercial kitchen. Additionally, there is both a new dining area and bar. The golf performance building houses two instructional hitting bays that can either open up to the driving range or be closed to the elements for off-season use. The pool building and golf performance building contain heavy timber wood framing; with the major materials being stone cladding and synthetic wood siding. The roof is a standing seam metal roof and will include raised dormer windows for light to reach the covered spaces.
The pool area is comprised of three heated pools – a family pool with “beach” entry, built-in seating, and a raised pedestal with water jets, an adult pool with a water feature, built-in seating, a built-in table, and a wading pool for children. The pool deck amenities include an outdoor kitchen, cabanas, and newly landscaped areas.
The clubhouse re-opened in May. The work was performed by SMC Construction Co.
The Club at ArrowCreek offers dual championship private golf courses in the southern hills of Reno, Nevada. The Legend Course, designed by golf icon Arnold Palmer, originally opened on Aug. 25, 1999. Legend weaves around ravines, dry creeks and high desert landscape. The Challenge Course, designed by Fuzzy Zoeller and John Harbottle, lies at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains with unobstructed city and valley views.

Meanwhile, the design for the reinvented Country Club at DC Ranch’s Men’s Locker Room and Grill in Scottsdale, Ariz., was also handled by PHX. The goal of the design was to provide members of this country club with a more modern atmosphere when dining at the club’s many restaurants, and a clean, contemporary feel when using the renovated locker rooms. When designing this space – PHX wanted to achieve a desert modern feel and stay true to the club’s Arizona backdrop. The clubhouse re-opened in October. The work was performed by Wespac.
