Tulsa (Okla.) Country Club is halfway through an $8.5 million facelift to its clubhouse and golf course, reports the Greater Tulsa Reporter Newspapers.
A news conference was held recently at the club to reveal the $2.5 million newly-renovated clubhouse and to discuss the beginning of a $6 million renovation of the golf course.
The newly renovated clubhouse offers more than 25,000 square feet of amenities for members and guests. Included in the clubhouse are a member-friendly Pro Shop, locker rooms, a complete fitness center with new cardio equipment, an adult designated lounge, two new dining areas, a kids’ zone and an adult game room.
The golf course, originally designed by A.W. Tillinghast, has been designed by Rees Jones, who has restored more of Tillinghast’s courses than any other architect. Construction on the course began on August 2 with the closing of the front nine holes. The entire course will close August 16 and will re-open in May 2011.
Once complete, the design will feature new Bermuda grass for fairways, a variety of greens that will provide improved putting conditions, new irrigation for the entire property, re-alignment of tee boxes and a new pond feature that will allow the club to reduce its dependence on the city of Tulsa water supply for irrigation.
“Although economic conditions certainly remain difficult, the reality is that construction costs aren’t likely to be as low as they are today,” said General Manager Jason Fiscus. “Because the primary reason for undertaking these improvements is the needed replacement of aging assets, there really is no better time than now.”
Golf activities will still be available during the renovation as Tulsa CC will continue to offer lessons to members and arrange for members to play at other golf courses in the area.
