The transformation under the direction of Olympic golf course architect Gil Hanse is now complete. The project also included developing a new maintenance infrastructure and making the practice facility five times bigger, with a state-of-the-art LED lighting system that will allow practice well into the night.
On February 6, Donald J. Trump, President and Chairman of The Trump Organization, accompanied by Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump, Executive Vice Presidents of Development and Acquisitions, officially opened the world-famous Blue Monster golf course at Trump National Doral® Miami, one of the newest additions to the Trump Hotel Collection.
Working with Olympic golf course architect Gil Hanse, the Trump Organization has spent the last year redesigning and building the championship course. A host to the PGA Tour for over 50 years, The Blue Monster has undergone a total transformation and features completely new greens, traps, fairways tees and lakes that are bigger than before.
“Trump National Doral will soon become, upon completion of the Red Tiger and Golden Palm golf courses, the greatest golf resort in the United States, with the brand new and truly amazing Blue Monster — there will be nothing like it,” stated Donald J. Trump.
In addition to spending millions enhancing and redeveloping the new course from a design perspective, a new maintenance infrastructure was also developed to allow the course to be maintained at the highest conditioning standards, the Trump Organization noted.
“This is one of the most exciting projects that I have ever had the privilege to work on,” Hanse said. “The property itself, being all sand-based, is very unusual and unique—and a tremendous asset for a golf course. On top of it all, its location, in the middle of Miami, is unprecedented.”
In addition to creating a brand new course for players, changes have been implemented to specifically benefit fans attending tournaments at Doral, it was noted. Over a million yards of undulation has been added to make it easier to watch the greatest players in the World Golf Championships (WGC)-Cadillac Championship, to be held in March.
The practice facility at Trump National Doral has also seen a major transformation, it was noted. It is now five times the original size and includes a newly created driving range, short game, chipping and putting area. The new facility also includes a state-of-the-art LED lighting system, the first of its kind in the world, allowing for practice well into the night.
Other noteworthy changes at Trump National Doral include a newly designed hotel lobby; a completely new and remodeled swimming complex, known as The Royal Palm Pool, featuring a lush landscape and an expansive patio design along with 22 lavish cabanas; over 100,000 square feet of six elegant indoor and outdoor premier event venues; clubhouse improvements with a new golf shop that will rank as one of the largest in the country, and added modern locker room facilities; a 48,000-sq. ft. resort spa with over 100 signature spa treatments and services; and a fully redesigned, state-of-the-art fitness center.
Additionally, all-new restaurant and bar concepts will be introduced to the property in early 2014, including the critically acclaimed BLT Prime, which will welcome guests for the first time during WGC-Cadillac Championship tournament week.
