Dinner on the Sunday after Christmas is said to be the biggest night of the year for the Grill Room at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, Fla., with nearly 500 guests. But this year all diners had to go through metal detectors, and some were patted down after making inappropriate comments, when the club’s owner—and leading Presidential candidate—showed up with his family and Secret Service detail.
Guests at the Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, Fla., were surprised when they arrived to dinner on the Sunday night after Christmas to discover metal detectors and Secret Service agents, the New York Post reported.
It turned out presidential candidate Donald Trump himself was at the meal with his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and sons Barron and Eric.
The Sunday after Christmas is said to be the biggest night of the year for the club’s restaurant, the Grill Room, the Post reported, with about 500 guests coming to enjoy a spread that includes snow crabs, sushi and lobster.
But this year, the experience also included unprecedented levels of security.
“We had to go through metal detectors. That’s never happened in all our years there,” one shocked club member told the Post.
“Someone got patted down because he made a comment like, ‘Oh, yeah, I probably shouldn’t have brought that cocaine!’” the club member added.
“Everyone was making jokes about the security,” the club member told the Post. “You belong to a country club, why would you have to go through metal detectors?”
Another source told the Post, “His security was insane. They were everywhere.”
Trump has had Secret Service protection since November, the Post noted, when it was revealed his code name among agents is “Mogul.”
