The new ownership group of the private club in Harbor Springs, Mich. selected the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based management firm to oversee all golf and club operations.
True North Golf Club, a private club in Harbor Springs, Mich., has announced that effective in April 2016, Scottsdale, Ariz.-based OB Sports Golf Management began overseeing all golf and club operations for the facility.
“Our ownership group acquired True North at a time when the course and the club were emerging from challenging economic times,” said Fritz Duda, Managing Partner of True North Golf Club. “Our commitment to making this a premier club involved finishing various elements over the past few years, including what is now a signature 18th hole, in order to position the club for future growth.
“With this transition now virtually completed, we selected OB Sports to manage and operate the club as it continues its growth,” Duda continued. “[OB Sports’] reputation and performance with other high-quality clubs is consistent with the high standards we have set at True North.”
Opened in 2004 and designed by award-winning architect Jim Engh, True North offers four sets of tee boxes that measure anywhere from 7,040 yards from the championship tees, to 4,847 yards from the gold tees.
The property also has several golf cottages modeled after Augusta National Golf Club and other distinguished venues. These allow stay-and-play visits for members and guests, adjacent to a world-class short-game practice area.
True North’s 6,000-sq. ft. clubhouse, located and built on the highest point on the property, is home to a golf shop, the Compass dining room, a boardroom, and men’s and women’s locker rooms.
True North Golf Club offers a variety of memberships, including Generational and Corporate, by invitation. Matt Payne is the club’s General Manager.
“We’re looking forward to working with such a special golf club,” said Sean Cracraft, Senior Vice President of Operations at OB Sports. “True North is looking to add to an already active membership by showcasing a first-class golf course and facilities. We couldn’t be more excited about the future.
“During a brief period that the club allowed public play, Golf Digest rated it number 33 of the Top 100 in 2011,” Cracraft added. “The club is now private and is ranked as one of the top courses in Michigan. With the terrific improvements the ownership group has accomplished these past few years, it will undoubtedly enjoy a future top rating nationally as a private course.
“There is so much to do and see in Northern Michigan, and True North is in the center of it all,” Cracraft said “I’ve heard Harbor Springs referred to as the ‘Monterey-Carmel of the Midwest,’ and I would have to agree. The natural beauty in every direction just breathtaking.”
OB Sports currently manages close to 60 golf courses and country clubs throughout the United States.
