The club’s Board unanimously negotiated a contract with the management company, which caused some controversy among members, who claimed the planned changes were unnecessary.
A swirl over operational management at the Walla Walla (Wash.) Country Club has reportedly simmered to a close, as management company Troon has canceled the agreement, the Walla Walla-based Union-Bulletin reported.
A meeting originally set for today for the more than 400 members of the club will likely be canceled, said board President Gregg Loney. Loney said a disagreement among members over a contract with Troon has become moot, the Union-Bulletin reported.
The board had unanimously negotiated a contract with Troon, which was prepared to take over operations of the club as Board members prepared to chart a new course for the facility. In a letter to club members sent about two weeks ago, Board members said the change was a strategy designed to adapt to changing market conditions, the Union-Bulletin reported.
The changes have not necessarily been financially detrimental to the local club. But the financial structure has changed. Initiation fees that once solely funded capital projects have been sharply reduced in recent years to help entice new members. The membership waiting list that used to be a regular feature of the club is now nonexistent, the Union-Bulletin reported.
The relationship with Troon was initially designed as a step to solidify the club’s future, the Board said in its letter. However, the decision and the process of making it didn’t sit well with many members. Among the concerns was the process of moving forward on a contract without notifying members, and whether or not the move was necessary in the first place.
With the division, Loney said Troon opted Tuesday to cancel the contract, the Union-Bulletin reported.
