In 2009, local golfers will have the opportunity to participate in a large number of golf tournaments organized by the Golf Club of Valdosta (Ga.), according to an article in the Valdosta Daily Times.
The Golf Club of Valdosta (GCOV) is a newly organized public golf organization headed by Tournament Director John Ungar. The GCOV hopes to attract golfers seeking the opportunity to participate in events when their lifestyle and work schedule allows, and at a price they can afford. With that in mind, in 2009, the club will sponsor 86 18-hole golf tournaments on the weekends, and 154 nine-hole weekday events, at courses around the state.
“We want to be an alternative to being a member of a golf club,” Ungar said. “Golfers can play every weekend, or during the week, depending on their schedule. We’ve got something going on every week.”
Ungar says he will operate the Golf Club of Valdosta with a basic formula of “Three Ps”: product (providing the golfer with quality events and quality conditions, played at quality golf courses), price (charging reasonable entry fees for golfers to play in each event), and participation (making events open to both male and female golfers).
Annual membership will be $55. There will be no monthly dues, and members will receive a monthly newsletter. Membership is not required to participate in the club’s tournaments, but members will receive reduced entry fees into the tournaments, and can save as much as $450 on tournament fees for the year.
The club is open to anyone who wishes to join.
