New owner Jeff McDonald hopes to increase membership and offer a number of unique tournaments at the Asheboro, N.C., property throughout the year, including a customer appreciation event, the Asheboro Match Play Championship, The Red, White & Blue four-person scramble, the Armed Forces Challenges, the Thanksgiving Mixer, and more.
Jeff McDonald is bringing his “unconventional” ways to Tot Hill Farm Golf Club in Asheboro, N.C., where he hopes to increase membership, offer a number of unique tournaments, and continue to give golfers a fun yet challenging day on the golf course, the Asheboro-based Courier-Tribune reported.
“I am a little bit different,” McDonald recently said. “I have always worked in places where it has been my job to come up with activities that cause an increase in participation and for revenue to increase.”
So far, McDonald has scheduled a customer appreciation event, an Irish Open, The Dog Wood Classic in April, the Tot Hill Players Championship in May, The Red, White & Blue four-person scramble for July, the Tot Hill Open in August, the Armed Forces Challenge in September, the Harvest Invitational in October, the Thanksgiving Mixer in November and the Tournament of Champions in December, the Courier-Tribune reported.
Another idea is the Asheboro Match Play Championship, which is scheduled for May 1 through June 3. There is a one-time entry fee of $50 plus $25 for every round of golf played. McDonald is hoping for 64 players who will be seeded and put into two brackets. Handicapped index will be used to determine the brackets. There will be one round per week with golfers agreeing to a mutual time any time during that week. Winners each week will receive gift cards with the amount of that gift card increasing each week, the Courier-Tribune reported.
“It is so much fun for everyone when you get 64 players to fill the brackets,” McDonald said. “I am hoping this works out. The very first year of doing something is always the most difficult. If we make sure those 64 players the first year have a great time, I don’t think it will be hard to fill up over the years.”
The prize breakdown includes a $20 gift card for all first-round winners; a $30 gift card for all second-round winners; a $40 gift card for all third-round winners; a $65 gift card for both fourth-round winners; and the champion will receive a $1,000 gift card with the runner-up receiving a $500 gift card. These prizes are based on a 64-player field, the Courier-Tribune reported.
McDonald has a number of additional ideas, including one where each golfer in a tournament is matched with a professional golfer who is participating in a PGA event that weekend. The local golfer will draw a name of a professional golfer and the named drawn will be the local player’s partner for the tournament. Both scores will be added to determine the winner, the Courier-Tribune reported.
