“Devastating winds” damaged five trees and left debris strewn about the Hinckley, Ohio golf course. Play resumed about 40 minutes after the EF1 tornado touched down.
A tornado touched down in Hinckley, Ohio on Tuesday, damaging Valleaire Golf Club and nearby properties, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.
An EF1 tornado with winds up to 94 mph struck about 2:50 p.m. at the golf course, the National Weather Service confirmed.
A club employee said no one was hurt but “devastating winds” damaged about five trees and left debris strewn about the first, sixth, ninth and 18th holes, the Plain Dealer reported.
The employee said he sounded the club’s emergency alarm when he received news of the tornado warning. A second club employee drove around the course and warned golfers to seek shelter, the Plain Dealer reported.
Golfers had resumed play by 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and crews from the club and the township were on scene assessing damage and clearing debris, the Plain Dealer reported.
