The Ansley Golf Club is a leader in the Atlanta, Ga. tennis industry. Not only does Ansley have one of the most active tennis centers in the Atlanta area, but it was the first facility to have permanent pickleball courts installed.
The club has a paddle tennis court as a part of the facility, as well. The facility only has eight hydro-courts, but it is so busy it requires six full-time tennis professionals to run all the programming and lessons.
Ansley has more than 50 teams each year in various forms of league and intra-club play. This requires the club to partner with a local clay court facility (Bitsy Grant City Park) in order to have enough court space for all the teams to play their matches.
With more than 600 active member families in the program, Ansley hosts the same percentage of members each week as the golf facilities.
Vendors have also asked the facility to be a test site for new technology (LED lights most recently) because they know if the club chooses something to add, other facilities in the area will follow.
In 2021 Ansley has seen an incredible jump in all types of court usage. Tennis court usage (Jan-April) is up 79% from the same time frame in 2019. PIckleball court usage is up almost 400% in that same time frame as well.
Ansley is also host to one of the largest Charity Pro-Ams in the country. With more than 250 players that participate in golf, tennis and pickleball over the four-day span, Ansley has raised more than $2 million for local charities. It was awarded the National Charity Event of the Year in 2012 by the United States Professional Tennis Association.

Throughout its 134 years—106 of which have been housed in our iconic clubhouse designed by legendary architect Albert Kahn—the Detroit (Mich.) Athletic Club has offered members the most sought-after experience in the city, not only as a social epicenter, but also as a racquet sports destination.
The club’s Court Center is home to the most competitive of experts and just as accommodating to the new players developing the muscle memory from which a lifetime love can be encouraged.
The Club’s enthusiasm for racquet sports has been nurtured by a commitment of multiple renovations over the past 10 years, including the hiring of a racquetball and pickleball pro—joining head and assistant squash pros—and a “recovery suite” to get members back in the game.
The racquet facilities of the DAC encompass the following sports that, taken together, thrive as a community more popularly known as the “Blackballers”:
Squash: Squash traditionally is one of the most popular activities in the Clubhouse and offers some of the most spirited competition among members. Under the direction of our head squash pro, Mick Joint, a large variety of lessons, clinics, leagues, and tournaments are available to members and family members of all ages. Besides the DAC Women’s Pro Squash Classic—one of the top 10 events of its kind in the nation—the club has hosted pro squash tournaments; numerous local, regional and state tournaments; pro exhibitions; annual cross-border challenges with Canadian squads. And for the emerging aficionado, the club hosts in-house leagues, ladders, events and, for the past 35 years, one of the largest amateur events in the country, the DAC Squash Classic.
Handball: A long-standing Club tradition, this tight-knit community plays both inside and outside the C\club through a variety of in-house leagues, tournaments, social events and member clinics. Rookies receive the encouragement to develop into top-notch league competitors. The club’s Court Center has hosted world and national professional handball events, pro-am events, state and regional tournaments—along with the cub’s signature Commissioner’s tournament, now more than three decades old.
Racquetball: Racquetball at the DAC offers a variety of in-house leagues, competitions, guest pro clinics, monthly box ladders, regional tournaments and an invitational.
Pickleball: This emerging racquet sport has established itself through in-house leagues and events along with guest pro clinics.
No matter the racquet sport, the club supports and enhances the member experience through “learn how” events for newcomers to the sports, through lessons and events designed just for the sheer joy of playing something you’ve never done before. And, to be sure, more social sporting occasions such as “Women, Wine and Squash.” All of it supported and supplied by our pro shop and our three professionals on staff.
Racquet sports are central to the athletics program of the club. And athletics overall is more than just what we call the middle name of the DAC. It is the foundation of a wellness experience designed to improve the quality of life of members through personal growth and camaraderie.
Grass court tennis brings an entirely new perspective to the sport—and to Sand Valley in Nekoosa, Wis. Playing on a grass tennis court is a rare pleasure, and it’s one that’s getting rarer. Sand Valley in central Wisconsin offers one of the largest public grass tennis facilities in the U.S. The resort is home to 15 expertly manicured grass tennis courts set in banks of three among dramatic natural sand dunes that showcase the beauty of the region. The sweeping vistas adjacent to the resort’s three award-winning golf courses provides the perfect backdrop for guests and visitors to experience the joy of grass tennis.
Sand Valley’s grass courts are open daily during golf season to both resort and day guests. Non-resort guests are welcome to play for a nominal fee of $20/hour per court, while resort guests receive complimentary access.

The Topeka (Kan.) Country Club is currently undergoing renovation of its tennis and pickleball facilities. Improvements include: Installing sports interior liner system on all walls and ceiling; Removing existing 30 incandescent lights and replacing with 60 LED light fixtures; and Painting a second set of pickleball lines on the indoor center court.
Under the direction of Junior Brown, USPTA, PPR, the tennis center is on pace to see more than 7,000 tennis center visits this year—A 22% increase from 2019.
The addition of pickleball has been a hit with the membership. A new event was developed this year called “Let’s Glow Crazy” where the indoor courts are transformed in the evening and everything glows. Members and their guests enjoy playing tennis and pickleball in the glow of the black lights, not to mention a paint station, glow in the dark drinks and more.
The Club at the Dunes in Naples, Fla. has a robust and active tennis program with some of the most passionate players around. The program was started by and flourished under experienced, hard-working and charismatic tennis pros that spent the last 20 years of their careers with the Dunes. These pros were looked upon so fondly that upon announcement of their retirement this year, the community rallied around them and renamed the tennis facilities in their honor.
The program will now be handed off to the esteemed Cliff Drysdale Tennis management company, a division of Troon, who will no doubt continue to grow the program in both tennis and pickleball with full support of the Dunes members.
The tennis courts and pro shop are conveniently located adjacent to our wellness center, resort-style pool and guest cottages.
In line with Blue Zones and America’s Healthiest Clubs philosophies, the courts can be easily accessed from sidewalks and bike paths that wind through the entire community.
