Ocean Reef Club Spa Fitness & Wellness Center in Key Largo, Fla.; Addison Reserve Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla.; Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club in Palo Alto, Calif.; Fountain Life / Fountain X in Naples, Fla.; and Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. lead the way in the 2022 Top Ranked Fitness & Wellness Centers.
Inclusion on this list highlights the investments these clubs have made in their fitness centers and the commitment to the guest experience. All listings were selected and ranked by a panel of judges.
The rankings reflect the judges’ scoring of submitted entries that included data on fitness and spa facility size, and the size of retail and/or food-and-beverage facilities related to fitness/wellness; average member usage, both on a monthly-visit basis and as a percentage of total membership; equipment value; classes and services offered; and staff size (both full- and part-time).

1. Ocean Reef Club Spa Fitness & Wellness Center; Key Largo, Fla.
Ocean Reef Club’s Spa, Salon, and Wellness Center is in a 28,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility set amid 2,500 tropical acres in a private community in Key Largo, Fla. This beautiful private Club, with its own private inn, airport, shopping village, and more, offers beautiful views of the ocean and a wide variety of activities, amenities. In addition to the Spa & Fitness/Wellness center, other activies/amenities include: tennis courts, croquet, fishing charters, 3 golf courses, a variety of restaurants, and a cooking school.
Featuring an innovative fusion of spa and wellness, the beautiful building is the end result of a project executed with Peacock + Lewis Architects and Planners, LLC. The Spa is located on the first floor of the center, and offers 10 treatment rooms, an experience shower, dry sauna, men’s and ladies’ steam rooms, relaxation lounge, retail boutique and a couples’ suite. The second floor of the Wellness Center includes a 20,000-sq. ft. fitness center and Fitness Café that sells and promotes healthy and delicious food and drink options, giving members the opportunity to stop in for a smoothie or healthy snack before and after their workout.
The Spa Menu offers an array of massage, energy, body, and ayurveda services, along with customized healing rituals, beauty treatments and personalized services designed to heal, balance, restore and replenish. The fitness center has various offerings ranging from programs to develop muscle tone, strength and balance to breathwork, myofascial release, posture correction and meditation. Over eighty group classes are hosted per week, and over thirty special events each month during season. The Ocean Reef team has an established connection with the Medical Center and Physical Therapy clinic that is also located within the club, creating an optimal circle of care for members.
The club’s fitness retail shop includes top brands such as Lululemon and On Running, and its Spa Boutique carries an array of high-end, luxury brands for hair, skin and body care needs, including Biologique Rechere, Babor, Oribe, Skinceuticals, Living Proof, Aromatherapy Associates and more.

2. Addison Reserve Country Club; Delray Beach, Fla.
Addison Reserve’s state-of-the-art 35,000-sq. ft. Fitness and Wellness Center has been welcoming members, their guests and families since the fall of 2019. The resort style amenities include a free form pool with dedicated lap lanes; green space for outdoor aerobic classes and games; tennis and pickleball complex; full basketball court; luxurious spa; children’s aqua area and game room; and The Grille restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating to accommodate over 300 persons.
The Fitness Center provides an indoor aerobic studio, a TRX circuit studio, large cardio/free weight area, Peleton studio, Kinesis Wall room, three Pilates studios and stretching area. Over 20 classes each week, including water aerobic classes, provide group fitness for Members. Personal trainers are on staff to assist Members with individual fitness needs. Licensed, registered physical therapists and a nutritionist on staff round out the services offered to Members in the Fitness Center.
The luxurious spa invites all who enter to enjoy the zen atmosphere while receiving a manicure/pedicure, facial, shopping in the boutique, being treated to a massage in one of the five uniquely decorated massage studios, bask in the Salt Therapy room, be pampered in the hair salon that caters to ladies and gentlemen, or relax in his and hers serenity areas before or after a service.
The outdoor, moonlit whirlpool adds to the incredible list of services provided at The Spa. Children delight in the children’s pool with water spouts, and in the nearby game room.
The day or night is topped off with continental breakfast, lunch, snack menu or dinner at The Grille. Dine indoors; outdoors under cover; al fresco by the illuminated waterfall; or at the indoor/outdoor wraparound bar. To complement food service at The Grille is live entertainment on Poolside Saturdays. Full food delivery to Members’ homes is available for lunch and dinner during dining hours.
The Tennis and Pickleball complex features 11 Har-Tru lighted tennis courts, four lighted pickleball courts, and the adjacent lighted basketball court. The Tennis Director and teaching professionals participate in Play with the Pro programs; complimentary clinics in tennis and pickleball; junior clinics; as well as individual instruction.
In the fall of 2021, Addison Reserve further enhanced its Fitness Program by capitalizing on outdoor activities. Two Bocce courts were added near the Waterfall Terrace at the recently refurbished Clubhouse. At Sweet Bay park, one of four mini parks in the community, we installed circuit training equipment that provides a full workout while enjoying the outdoors and surrounding water features. There is a fifth park in the community for four-legged friends – they need exercise, too!
The fitness and wellness program at Addison Reserve is well-rounded, offering a multitude of indoor areas, private and group instruction, and a myriad of outdoor venues to enhance Members’ personal fitness, wellness and nutritional goals. All this, without ever having to leave the security of your own community.
3. Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club; Palo Alto, Calif.
Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club (PAHGCC) opened its Wellness Center doors to our Membership and their guests in November 2010. Since its inception, the two-story building has served as the cornerstone of family-oriented and fitness-minded activity and featured regularly in our monthly video newsletter taped in collaboration with the NBC Golf Channel. Palo Alto Hills is home to one of the most welcoming and diverse private clubs in the world. And we are excited to raise the Fitness & Wellness Center bar even further within the private club Industry.
The state-of-the-art Wellness Center is known as “a mini-club within a club” amongst our Members due to its exclusivity and private feel. Complete with a variety of cardiovascular and strength-equipment, two exercise rooms to accommodate a weekly schedule of thirty fitness classes, personal trainers, and more – we think the Wellness Center has something for all member’s fitness-related needs. Since partnering with renowned company Mobius Fitness, we have contracted the best personal trainers in the Bay Area and have diversified our fitness program. This has allowed us to bring in a team of specialized trainers that range from Golf Mobility to Zumba exercises and everything in between. If Members cannot make it to the Wellness Center, they can get active via our virtual fitness classes found on the Club website, which offers eighteen different courses every week. For our top fitness enthusiasts, we provide a fitness class pass which allow Members to utilize more classes for less. We even take our love for fitness outdoors, taking advantage of local trails around Palo Alto including the Stanford Dish and Arastradero Preserve located right in our backyard.
The Wellness Center boasts three tennis courts – Two full-sized, standard courts, and one grass court. We are proud to be home to the only grass court in Northern California. From our tennis courts, overlooking the signature 18th hole, and infinity pool lies stunning vistas of the San Francisco Bay Area. And two pickleball courts round-up the tennis options for our Members. Our esteemed tennis professionals continue to grow our tennis program offering private lessons, clinics, and socials for all age groups. And our ball machine allows Members to practice even without a partner. For Members seeking something more sociable, they can sign up for pickleball or tennis hitting lists to find a partner to play a match with.
Sitting poolside brings wine and dine options from our kitchen while Members overlook the 18th green which sits amongst our golden, picturesque hillside. One of our most coveted events is our annual summer kick-off pool party where we bring in local food, beer, and wine vendors to celebrate with live music. With poolside games and BBQ-style meals, every Summer has outdone the next. We offer child and adult swim clinics year-round with dedicated age groups that focus on everything from adapting in the water to gaining every millisecond in competitions.
PAHGCC’s Acqua Spa is a sanctuary for relaxation complete with a menu of spa services ranging from mother-to-be massages to teen clean facials and everything in between. The sauna, jacuzzi, and men’s and women’s steam rooms complement the Acqua Spa experience. In addition to facials and massages, the Acqua Spa offers cupping treatments, a recovery room, and Hyperice equipment to release any post-workout muscle tension from golf or tennis.
A wellness visit isn’t complete without enjoying our “retail therapy” club shop. This dedicated space is filled with the greatest skincare products like Epicuren and Skinceuticals. If Members can’t make it here, our website has an online e-commerce shop where Members can choose their products to pick up the next time they visit the Wellness Center. Our retail options also extend outside our shop as we continue to host pop-up trunk shows from jewelry lines like Kathy Kamei Design and workout brands like PopFlex.
Youth activities and wellness programming have played an integral role in the growth of our membership. In addition to our Youth Room, which is a dedicated space for kids to enjoy time with their peers, the Wellness Center offers a multitude of diverse events from Kidz Fit Classes, Kidz Movie Night, Junior Tennis, Junior Swim, Food Fight Fiasco, Halloween Fright Night, camping on the Golf course and so much more. For those seeking a bit more privacy, the Wellness Center has converted one of its rooms into a private office and event space that Members can reserve to work virtually, host meetings, have baby showers, birthdays, and other celebration or business matters.
Well over eighty youth and family events are listed in PAHGCC’S annual family guide. But that’s just the start because the Wellness Center partners with KECamps every summer to bring these kids even more programs to look forward to. Due to our consecutive weeks in maximum participation, it’s evident KECamps has gained massive popularity throughout the Club.

Active membership? That’s an understatement when it comes to Desert Mountain Club and its Sonoran Clubhouse. In fact, our goal is to provide a holistic wellness program that includes all sports and outdoor activities based on health, nutrition, meditation, mental health, personalized training, and technological tracking of members’ fitness.
Last year alone there were 14,966 spa treatments, 12,051 fitness training sessions, 2,764 training classes, 22,906 individual hikes and 2,532 tennis lessons.
The expansive 42,000-square-foot Sonoran clubhouse is the home of the Sonoran Fitness and Spa, the club’s tennis complex, and adjacent family and fitness pools.
