Two years after it was reported that some members of the Brookline, Mass. club were concerned that accepting the New England Patriots’ quarterback and his equally high-profile wife, Gisele Bundchen, would attract too much attention and the couple was advised to wait until his career ended, Brady’s name has been included on the roster of new members on the club’s website, and the couple has been seen playing golf there in recent weeks.
Two years ago, when Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen applied to join The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., The Boston Globe reported that some members of the oldest country club in the U.S. had expressed concern that admitting two such high-profile celebrities would attract too much attention for the institution that values privacy and understatement (http://clubandresortbusiness.com/2015/07/bradybundchen-application-puts-the-country-club-in-spotlight/).
So the request by the New England Patriots quarterback and his supermodel spouse was put on hold, The Globe reported, and it was suggested that they reapply after Brady’s playing days were over.
It now turns out that Brady and Bundchen didn’t have to wait that long. The couple, whose multimillion-dollar home is adjacent to the club, has been seen playing golf at The Country Club in recent weeks, The Globe reported, after Brady, fresh off his latest Super Bowl victory (and fifth overall) was quietly admitted to the club. The membership gives both Brady and his wife and family the privilege of using The Country Club’s many amenities, including the golf courses—both the 18-hole and the nine-hole—indoor and outdoor tennis courts, curling rink, Olympic-size swimming pool, skeet range, cross-country skiing trails, and skating pond, The Globe reported.
The Globe reported that David Chag, the club’s General Manager, didn’t return a call seeking confirmation of Brady’s admission, but that three members, speaking on the strictest condition of anonymity, confirmed that he is now a member. And the quarterback’s name, as Thomas Edward Brady, is on the roster of new members that was recently posted on the club’s website, The Globe reported.
Established in 1882 and celebrating its 135th anniversary this year, applicants to The Country Club typically must be sponsored by two current club members and provide the admissions committee with testimonials from seven other people with whom the applicant has a personal relationship, The Globe reported. Applicants also usually are required to attend a cocktail reception at the club with members of the admissions committee. The Globe’s report didn’t confirm whether Brady went through all steps of the usual process required for admission.
