For several years, the Houston (Texas) Racquet Club (HRC) has used its “Insider Podcast” program to help its staff members—and club members as well—learn more about each other beyond their roles at the club. “There are some unbelievable life stories [among our staff]” that the podcasts highlight, says Chief Operating Officer Thomas Preuml. In this episode of C+RB’s video series, Preuml and Charles Carroll, the Executive Chef of River Oaks Country Club in Houston who provides podcasting services to clubs through his MyCompanyRadio service, discuss how the podcasts have proved to be especially valuable while in-person communication has been limited during the pandemic—even helping to generate the highest-ever contributions for HRC’s annual fundraiser.
“The Road Back” video series from Club + Resort Business provides fresh insights into how club and resort properties are meeting the challenges posed by the pandemic and finding new and innovative ways to boost business levels and return to full operation.
This episode highlights how the “Insider Podcast” program at the Houston (Texas) Racquet Club (HRC) has proved to be especially valuable while in-person communication has been limited during the pandemic. The club has been using the every-other-week podcasts for several years to help its staff members—and club members as well—learn more about each other beyond their roles at the club.
“There are some unbelievable life stories [among our staff]—9/11 survivors, people who have been here 40 years,” says HRC’s Chief Operating Officer, Thomas Preuml, CCM, CCE, who conducts the largely unscripted, one-on-one interviews. And the podcasts have “really come in handy” while operating during COVID-19, Preuml adds, as they have been used to recognize staff for special efforts, generate the highest-ever contributions for the club’s annual fundraiser, and share a memorial tribute for a beloved long-time employee after his unexpected death in 2020.
Preuml is joined in this “Road Back” video by Charles Carroll, CEC, AAC, HGT, the Executive Chef of River Oaks Country Club in Houston, who provides podcasting services for HRC and other clubs through his MyCompanyRadio service. “Podcasting fits everyone’s schedule and it’s part of the way that virtual communications are changing how clubs operate,” says Carroll. “It’s a powerful tool, and I don’t see it going away.”
