Anthony Salvaggio, President and CEO of an international IT services and solutions firm, wants to buy the Sugarloaf, Pa., club and its assets. Though the purchase price and specific plans for the property have not been revealed, Salvaggio said he wants to make “rather dramatic enhancements.”
Anthony Salvaggio, president and CEO of CAI (Computer Aid), an international IT services and solutions firm, and founder of the CAI Learning Academy in Allentown, Pa., wants to buy Valley Country Club in Sugarloaf, Pa., and its assets, the Hazleton, Pa., Standard Speaker reported.
Salvaggio shared plans with club members Monday for purchasing the club and making “rather dramatic enhancements,” the Standard Speaker reported.
“I want to make Valley Country Club an equal to anything in this area and to anything in the Lehigh Valley,” Salvaggio said following a two-hour meeting Monday with members who packed a banquet hall at the club. “The golf course is absolutely in the top 10% in the country.”
Salvaggio said the presentation gave him an opportunity to share potential plans he has in mind for the club and answer questions from its members. He didn’t elaborate on a possible purchase price or specific plans, the Standard Speaker reported.
Donald Pachence, a member and past president at the club, said that members greeted Salvaggio’s plans with an “overwhelmingly positive” response. The club could possibly act on Salvaggio’s proposal when it holds its annual meeting May 9, Pachence said.
Club President Joseph Zeller III said that Salvaggio approached the club—and emphasized that it “is not and hasn’t been” listed for sale. According to Zeller, Salvaggio shared plans for buying the club and its assets about six months ago with its board of directors, the Standard Speaker reported.
Approximately 400 members of record will have the final say on Salvaggio’s proposal, Zeller said. “Most people seemed to be positive of his plan,” Zeller said. “He’s looking to influx a lot of money into the place.”
The club dates to 1906, when businessmen formed a corporation to promote “social recreation and the encouragement and stimulation of an interest in cycling, horse riding, driving, golf, tennis and other outdoor sports,” according to Valley Country Club’s website.
In addition to a golf course designed by A.W. Tillinghast, Valley Country Club has dining, swimming and tennis facilities, the Standard Speaker reported.
Salvaggio said he made an offer for the club and its assets after speaking with his brother-in-law, a longtime member at the club. After spending 17 years with IBM, Salvaggio said that he launched CAI, which is headquartered in Allentown and employs about 4,000 people, the Standard Speaker reported.
