The 2017 recipients of the Excellence in Club Management Awards were honored during a reception, dinner and ceremony on March 3 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
The recognition program for the world’s most outstanding youth instructors is dominated by golf staff professionals at U. S. club and resort properties, including 15 who achieved Master Kids Teacher status for now having made the Top 50 list three times. All of the winners will be recognized with a special presentation on January 24th at the PGA Show.

Ruder, CCM, CCE, General Manager of Beach Point Club, Mamaroneck, N.Y. was elected Secretary–Treasurer. The association also announced that C. W. Cook, MCM, CCE, General Manager/Chief Operating Officer of North Hills Club, Raleigh, N.C., and Mac Niven, MCM, CCE, General Manager, Almaden Golf & Country Club, San Jose, Calif., have completed the requirements for the Master Club Manager designation.
ACF Culinary National Team USA ranked fourth in the world overall and won two gold medals in the 24th Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung International Culinary Exhibition, held October 22-25, in Erfurt, Germany. Two of the ACF Culinary USA teams—national and youth—finished in the top 10 and featured several chefs from leading private clubs.
The Executive Chef of the Tulsa, Okla. club is one of only 67 Certified Master Chefs in the United States. As an Associate of the Temecula, Calif.-based Master Chefs’ Institute, he will help the organization preserve the highest standards of culinary excellence through extensive testing of food, equipment and beverage products.
ACF Culinary National Team USA, ACF Culinary Youth Team USA and United States Army Culinary Arts Team will represent the U.S. in the Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung, to be held October 22-25 in Erfurt, Germany. Chefs from clubs including Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y., Myers Park Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., The Fort Worth (Texas) Club and more are competing on the teams.
The major tournament for senior players will return to the Midwest for the first time since 2006, to be contested at the Highland Park, Ill. club in partnership with the Western Golf Association.

The Club Managers Association of America has named Jill R. Philmon, CCM, CCE, Ballantyne Country Club, Charlotte, N.C., as President; Robert C. Corey Siegel has been named as the company’s newest Corporate Executive Chef, based at the company’s headquarters in Charlotte, N.C. Siegel’s experience includes stints at Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y., and The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., under Richard Rosendale.
Tony D’Errico, CCM, CCE, General Manager/COO of Westwood Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., has been named President of the organization. The Board has also launched the 2027 Club Professional Initiative, and named George Carroll, CCM, CCE, as CEO of The Club Foundation.
The 2014 honorees through the prestigious awards co-sponsored by Club & Resort Business and the McMahon Group—Christine Pooler of Merion GC; Mark Bado of Kansas City CC, and Gerald Marvel of The Club at UK’s Spindletop Hall, along with “Rising Star Award” winner Nick Markel of The Country Club (Pepper Pike, Ohio)—were recognized at an Awards Dinner held at the San Antonio Country Club.
