Upgrades of the Bonita Springs, Fla. property’s North and South courses are planned for the summer months of 2017 and 2018. Jones was selected for the projects based largely on a recommendation from the courses’ original designer, Bob Cupp, before Cupp died last year.
As the storied Juno Beach, Fla. club completed the first stage of a three-year project that is bringing new bunkering and tee boxes to its Donald Ross-designed golf course, it got the good news that it will be the site of the prestigious amateur competition. It will be Seminole’s first USGA event and the first Walker Cup held in Florida.
Several steps remain to complete the arrangement that would bring the Open back to L.A. for the first time in 75 years, when it was won by Ben Hogan at Riviera CC.
