Thanks to the Ski Area Recreational Opportunity Enhancement Act passed five years ago, 122 U.S. ski areas that operate at least partly on federal lands are allowed to offer summer activities, such as alpine coasters, bungee trampoline, disc golf, climbing walls, ropes courses, and zipline tours, as long as the new activities and facilities “encourage outdoor recreation and enjoyment of nature” and “harmonize with the natural environment.”
