The Joseph S. Garske Collegiate Grants, established in honor of the founder of Par Aide, which continues to sponsor the scholarship program, are awarded to children of club superintendents. Nine grants totaling $12,000 are awarded, based on applicants’ community service, leadership, academic performance and a written essay.
Newark (Del.) CC Avoids Development Restrictions
The City Council rejected a controversial plan that would have limited zoning on the 94-year-old club’s 120-acre property. The club, which has seen membership drop from over 400 six years ago to 285 currently, is considering options that could include moving over the border into Maryland, in addition to pursuing possible development.
GCSAA Names Legacy Award Winners
Funded by the GCSAA’s philanthropic organization, the Environmental Institute of Golf, and supported by Syngenta Professional Products, the $1,500 college scholarships were awarded to 20 children or grandchildren of GCSAA members. The awards are based on academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities and leadership skills.
