Phase II of the “Marbella, Reinvented” improvement initiative at the San Juan Capistrano, Calif. property replaced old dining venues with a new main dining room with a built-in action station and pizza oven, an enlarged Mixed Grille with gathering tables, a new “captivating interaction bar” and improvements to the Catalonia Terrace.
New Direction Sought for Bloody Point GC
A $2 million restoration of the Daufuskie Island, S.C. course has yielded disappointing results, so the owner is now proposing to turn the clubhouse into an inn and develop as much as 50,000 sq. ft. of commercial space. Annual rounds of 35,000 are needed to make the club financially viable, one planner said, “but they’re lucky if they can get 2,000 per year at this destination.”
“Throwback” Golf Variations Gain Popularity
Encouraged by adventurous golfers, creative greens chairmen are now scheduling their own takes on reverse or cross-country golf days at their properties, a practice that dates back to The Old Course at St Andrews. “It’s astounding how different the terrain looks when you are coming down the fairway from the other side,” said golfer Mike Mosely at Crestwood Golf Club in Marcy, N.Y. “It’s like a whole other golf course.”
Grand Opening Planned for Capital Canyon Club on October 3
The private club in Prescott, Ariz., will reopen after three years of restorations with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, golf tournament, badminton, bocce, and croquet games. Formerly known as Hassayampa Golf Club, the nearly century-old property is under new ownership that seeks to re-brand as “family friendly.”
Colorado, Maryland Club Properties Report Membership Growth
Frost Creek, formerly known as Adam’s Mountain Country Club in Eagle, Colo., has more than tripled its membership numbers under new owner Brue Capital. The Golf Club at South River in Edgewater, Md., is also reporting membership growth, thanks in part to a recent clubhouse renovation and restructured membership options.
Capital Canyon Club Undergoes Restoration
Renovations are underway at the Prescott, Ariz., property’s clubhouse, which is scheduled to open in May, and improvements to the golf course should be complete by July 4.

Atlanta-based Cygnus Capital Real Estate Advisors has launched a multi-million dollar reinvestment plan for the private, 554-acre Jackson Hole, Wyo., club. Renovation details include the completion of a 26,000-sq. ft. clubhouse facility, with plans for reopening a Tom Weiskopf golf course, family-focused amenities, and a collection of turnkey luxury cabins in 2014.
