Crystal Lake GC Development to Leave Deerfield Beach, Fla. With Just One Course
With one commissioner saying that letting the property close without development would “turn [it] into Jurassic Park, with lizards and iguanas running all over the place,” the go-ahead was given for the first building of new single-family homes in Deerfield Beach in 25 years. Deer Creek Golf Club will now have the only course in the city of 75,000.
Tam O’Shanter GC Seeks Redevelopment
The owners of the Canton, Ohio property are requesting to rezone 62 acres for commercial development. The majority of the property’s 225 acres would be sold to Stark Parks to be used as a passive park, and about 20 acres would be donated to the township for athletic fields.
Tam O’Shanter GC to Remain Open Through 2017
In December 2014, the Canton, Ohio course owners and the Stark County Parks District announced plans to convert most of the 295-acre tract into a county park. In the meantime, all 36 holes will remain open for the season, and play even saw an uptick in 2016.

NGCOA Announces Course of the Year Finalists
Miacomet Golf Course in Nantucket, Mass., Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Canton, Ohio, The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch in Boerne, Texas, and Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills, Calif., were nominated for the award. The winner will be announced on February 6 at the NGCOA Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla.
