The Edwards, Colo., property earned the honor through Troon’s annual awards. Brian Kelley of Manchester Country Club in Bedford, N.H., won “General Manager of the Year” and Jeff Cathey of Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Fla., earned “Superintendent of the Year.”
Charitable events and tournaments at Troon facilities nationwide contributed to the sum, with Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif., raising the most for a single facility, with $5 million, followed by The Golf Club at Lansdowne (Va.) with $2.5 million, and Whirlwind Golf Club at Wildhorse Pass in Chandler, Ariz., with $2.2 million.
The Rio Mar property in Puerto Rico is adjacent to the El Yunque rainforest and has two courses designed by Greg Norman and Tom and George Fazio. The contract with Golf Club Pfalz is Troon’s first in Germany.
With a completion date of April 1, the Galloway, N.J., club’s project will incorporate new tee boxes on the fourth, fifth, 10th and 12th holes, which will add 150 yards in overall length to the golf course. Additional course refinements include rebuilding all tee boxes and tee surfaces, adding new GPS units in the golf carts, and redesigning tee signs, markers and in-ground tee and fairway yardage plates.
