Emergency responders were called out to reports of a vehicle in the pond with a male victim floating outside the car. Divers were deployed to make sure no other victims were in the car. It is believed the victim got lost and turned down the wrong road before accidentally driving into the pond; foul play was not suspected.

The Southern Pines, N.C., property has hired an Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Manager for its new Heartwood at Longleaf restaurant. The restaurant is scheduled to open in June, following a renovation to the clubhouse, including a state-of-the-art kitchen, expanded dining rooms, new bar/lounge area, highlighted outdoor seating, and outdoor bar.

The golf course at the Southern Pines, N.C., property will be restored with greens converted to Champion Bermuda. The club will also add basketball and pickleball courts, while adding new barbecue and hospitality areas around the pool.

U.S. Kids Golf, which bought the Southern Pines, N.C. facility in 2015, will be redesigning and then operating a new restaurant, Heartwood at Longleaf, to replace the Filly & Colts restaurant that had been independently owned. Other improvements include converting existing greens to Bermuda grass, constructing a Golf Academy Learning Center, and enhancing the irrigation system.

The Southern Pines, N.C., facility is celebrating its 25th anniversary by reopening its updated golf course with new Champion Bermuda and reduced bunkers. The greens at the property’s Mid South Club will be remodeled next summer, and the resort will also update the cart path system and make improvements to the halfway house.

The six-hole Bottlebrush course at the Southern Pines, N.C., property features holes ranging from 50 to 100 yards in length and “can be enjoyed in well under an hour,” architect Bill Bergin said. The property also features new practice facilities that are home to the US Kids Golf Academy.

It will be first U.S. championship for the Durham, N.C. club, which was founded in 2001 by a group including former United States Golf Association President Jim Hyler and former University of North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith.

The Southern Pines, N.C., property will convert from its bent grass greens in May and is expected to be complete by mid-July. The conversion is driven in large part by the success enjoyed by neighboring properties.

The nonprofit organization has purchased the Southern Pines, N.C., property, renaming it Longleaf Golf & Family Club. The acquisition is part of the organization’s strategic plan to develop a Kids Golf Academy near Pinehurst.

The family-oriented organization has reached an agreement to buy the Southern Pines, N.C., property in an all-cash deal, as part of its plan to establish a national golf academy.

The pavilion at the Southern Pines, N.C., resort is a covered facility for up to 70 guests on a first-come-first-served basis that features North Carolina-style barbecue, TVs, and a fireplace.

Funded by the GCSAA’s philanthropic organization, the Environmental Institute of Golf, and supported by Syngenta Professional Products, the $1,500 college scholarships were awarded to 20 children or grandchildren of GCSAA members. The awards are based on academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities and leadership skills.
