Shinnecock Hills GC Seeks to Resolve Road Dispute
The storied Southampton, N.Y., club, which has hosted the U.S. Open four times in three different centuries and will again in 2018, seeks to move a public road that goes through its property and has become a popular cut-through for commuters on the East End of Long Island. Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a club member, is negotiating with the town for a settlement that reportedly would involve a $1 million donation to local schools and $6 million for public road projects, in addition to bearing the cost of the rerouting.
