City Club of Portland (Ore.) Member List Shared with Campaigns
A member of the club has admitted to sharing a list of its member roster to a political campaign for state ballot measure 99, and the list was reportedly used by two other campaigns. Club bylaws include a provision that states “use of the membership list is limited solely to facilitate the conduct of Club business,” and the club’s executive director said the club “will possibly take action against” the member.
Municipalities Revisit Golf Course Strategies
Cities, towns and villages in Pennsylvania, Alabama, Oregon, Illinois, Georgia, Iowa, and California are devising new ways to make municipal golf courses profitable or at least stop losing money. Officials in Allentown, Pa., plan to reduce the negative balance in the city golf fund by developing a business plan rather than relying on a third-party management firm.

Portland (Ore.) Plans Vote to Ban Smoking On Golf Courses in City Parks
Other cities in Oregon have exempted golfers from similar laws, but the ban in the state’s largest city would apply to all four of its municipal courses. Tobacco products would also be banned from being sold at the facilities, but groups renting courses for tournaments could apply for smoking permits. Portland would join a growing group of cities, including New York, San Francisco, Houston and New Orleans, that now also include golf in their smoking bans.
