Incident at York, Pa. Golf Club Draws Larger Spotlight
A Pennsylvania State Senator has now called for an investigation by the state’s Human Relations Commission into the incident at Grandview GC, where police were called after club officials told a group of African-American women that they were playing their rounds too slowly. The incident has also resulted in a similarly named club in Pittsburgh receiving threatening phone calls and negative online messages, and prompted national commentary about the level of racial inclusion in the golf industry.
Oakmont (Pa.) CC Lands 2025 U.S. Open
As the storied western Pennsylvania club wrapped up another successful hosting of the 2016 Championship, the United States Golf Association announced that it will only have to wait nine years for the next one. Churchill Valley CC Sale Delayed by Bankruptcy Filings
Beulah Road Land Co., which owns the Pittsburgh property, filed for Chapter 11 protection on July 26, the day after the club involuntarily filed for Chapter 7 to liquidate the assets of the 147-acre club. Zokaites Properties LLC bought out the club’s debt for $1.2 million in June, and that company’s owner plans to file a motion to dismiss the bankruptcy filings.
Whitehall CC Property Could Be Rezoned
Two companies have expressed interest in purchasing the now-defunct club property in Pittsburgh, but could not develop it as planned with the current zoning. An amended zoning ordinance, which will be reviewed at the council’s next meeting, would allow the rezoning of the property as residential in a category that allows four single-family dwellings or 12 townhouses to be built per acre.
