Pinehurst (N.C.) Resort & CC to Redesign No. 4, Add Short Course
The redesigned Pinehurst No. 4 will include exposed sand and native wire grass, wider fairways and natural topography, and is scheduled to begin construction in fall 2017 and reopen in fall 2018. The short course project will be built on 10 acres with 8 to 12 holes, and will begin in summer 2017 and open in fall 2017.

Oakmont (Pa.) CC Lands 2025 U.S. Open
As the storied western Pennsylvania club wrapped up another successful hosting of the 2016 Championship, the United States Golf Association announced that it will only have to wait nine years for the next one. It was also announced that Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southhampton, N.Y., will host the 2026 U.S. Open.
Veteran Golfers Association Announces 2016 Tour Schedule
The 2016 VGA Tour will be comprised of approximately 100 tournaments in four geographic regions, and includes the 2016 VGA Championship to be held November 6-9 at Pinehurst No. 2. Using Donald Ross’ original routing plans and aerial photography, the 18-hole golf course is undergoing a comprehensive design-reinstatement. A significant tree-removal plan, redesign of the irrigation system, and permitting for bridge relocations are underway, with long-term plans including fairway and approach realignments, surface reclamations, and reinstatement of the bunkers.
Direct Rail Line Planned for Pinehurst (N.C.) Resort
The Village Council and the resort are both supporting a project to build a railroad siding that would transport passengers while displaying vintage engines and train cars during special events. Riders could then exit the train and walk to the resort.
