Proposals for Public Course on Long-Closed Landfill Move Forward
The Orange County Board of Supervisors has given approval for lease negotiations to begin with potential developers of about 200 acres of the former Coyote Canyon landfill outside of Newport Beach, Calif. The leading plan would build an 18-hole short course, a double-ended, double-decker driving range, 12,000-sq. ft. clubhouse, 16,000 sq. ft. of ballrooms and wedding gardens, and a food court with a patio.

Study: Titanium-Coated Clubs Produce Sparks
A study conducted by scientists at UC Irvine confirms that titanium-coated golf clubs can produce a shower of sparks when struck against a rock, which could cause course-side vegetation to catch fire. Firefighters suspect that the clubs could be the cause of a blaze that burned 12 acres at Shady Canyon Golf Course in Irvine in 2010.
DragonRidge CC Sold for $11M
Canada-based Pacific Links International has acquired the private, Henderson, Nev., property, which includes a 39,000-sq. ft. clubhouse, 2,600-sq. ft. golf instruction facility, and 15,000-sq. ft. fitness center. The property is the third in the Las Vegas market acquired by Pacific Links, joining SouthShore Golf Club and Southern Highlands Golf Club, which were purchased in 2011.
