With 36,000 participants across 2,900 teams nationwide last year, The PGA of America’s youth grow-the-game initiative has seen a 300% increase in participants compared to three years ago. The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation has also committed $500,000 to The PGA of America to provide underprivileged kids with the opportunity to play golf.
The manufacturer will stop making clubs, golf balls and golf bags, instead devoting its resources to shoes and apparel. “We’re committed to being the undisputed leader in golf footwear and apparel,” said Trevor Edwards, president of Nike Brand. “We will achieve this by investing in performance innovation for athletes and delivering sustainable profitable growth for Nike Golf.”
This year’s championship at the Scottsdale, Ariz., property will be played November 19-21 on the Raptor course. Eight 10-player teams will compete in a two-person-scramble format, with coaches allowed to substitute players every three holes, so all team members can participate.
Eight all-star teams from clubs and facilities in California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Carolina have advanced to the finals, which will be held November 5th through 8th at the Walt Disney Resort’s Palm Course in Orlando.
Contest entrants get a chance to win a trip to the 2015 PGA Championship, August 10-16, at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.
