Operators of the resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. and related properties are seeking to “receive full compensation for the horrendous losses which resulted from the 1,000-Year flood [in 2016] and the insurers’ failure to promptly pay what was due.” The lawsuit charges the insurers with “heavy-handed, mean-spirited and egregious conduct.”
Ironwood G&CC Purchased by Renaissance Golf Group
The Greenville, N.C., club, with a golf course designed by Lee Trevino, joins the Beaufort Club, Compass Pointe and Magnolia Greens in the Renaissance portfolio. The new owner plans to add fitness facilities at Ironwood and strengthen its connection with East Carolina University through special membership programs for faculty, students and alumni.
Oak Hill CC to Host 2019 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship
The Pittsford, N.Y., property will play host to the 50-and-over Champions Tour event in May 2019. Between 1995 and through 2023, Oak Hill will have hosted one Ryder Cup (1995), two Senior PGAs (2008, 2019) and three PGA Championships (2003, 2013, 2023).
Short Courses Gain Favor in Kansas City Area
Tom Watson, who developed his own game playing on the former Santa Fe Hills executive course in the city as a youth, says his new “Watson 9” in Maryville, Mo. is being “well-utilized,” especially by junior players. The Sykes/Lady Overland Park Golf Club par-3 has become “more popular recently,” reports General Manager Curt Nelson, thanks in part to a new unlimited-play-pass program.
Nicklaus Discusses Oakhurst Design Plans
Jack Nicklaus spoke to the media about the golf course at The Greenbrier Sporting Club in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., which he is co-designing with Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino. The designers have a goal of making the 7,600-yard layout versatile enough to immediately host a major championship but still be “very playable for the average person.”

Geneva National Golf Club in Lake Geneva, Wis., has become Geneva National Resort after opening a 146-room lakeside hotel called Geneva Ridge Resort, and acquiring The Inns of Geneva National, both of which have been extensively remodeled. Geneva Ridge offers a full-service spa, indoor and outdoor pools, a marina, and more than 22,000 sq. ft. of meeting and banquet space.
