Actor Bill Murray and his five brothers, whose experiences as caddies at Indian Hill Club in Winnetka, Ill., inspired the 1980 golf comedy, have a verbal agreement for an 11,000-sq. ft. space inside the Crowne Plaza hotel and are now working to get a written lease. The brothers opened the Murray Bros. Caddyshack restaurant at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla., in 2001.
Murray Brothers LLC has partnered with Resignation Media to launch William Murray Golf, a clothing line described as having “a little irreverence and a lot of style.” The full collection will be available starting October 20, featuring the brand’s logo: an illustration of Murray tossing a golf club into the air after an errant shot.
With the help of scores of volunteers and new staff members, the property settled a lawsuit, paid back $50,000 in outstanding bills, and rehabilitated the golf course. Formed in 1919 under a special lease agreement with the City of Evanston and Village of Wilmette, the course has always been managed by an all-volunteer force.
