A brisk pace of fall rounds has helped to make up for a wet, cold spring in the region, and prompted some managers to schedule play and events deeper into the last months of the year. Jimmy Hanlin, a prominent local course owner and golf-show TV host, reported that an uptick in activity has also spurred new investment to improve properties.

The event brought an estimated 50,000 visitors to the Ohio city, and many area clubs and courses took steps in advance to try to attract everyone from delegates to private pilots with special promotions and rates. But so far, most properties report, it’s been a pretty typical summer week.

The Concord, Ohio property is in the early stages of the project, which will ultimately touch all 18 holes, with plans to do most of the “heavy work” before winter.

According to a report by Crain’s Cleveland Business, golf course properties in Northeast Ohio saw a drop in days open in 2013 due to inclement weather, prompting properties to seek out indoor activities such as golf simulators, food and beverage specials, and entertainment to keep customers on-site.
