The Golf Industry Show will continue its three-city rotation with Orlando, San Antonio and San Diego through the end of the decade, it was announced in Orlando. Excellence in Club Management Award Winners Announced
The 2013 winners of the awards co-sponsored by the McMahon Group and Club & Resort Business include Tony D’Errico of Westwood CC, Mike Stanton of San Luis Obispo CC, Robert Williams of the Westmoreland Club and Maria McGinity of River Oaks CC. In addition to presentations at their individual clubs, all will be honored at the ECM Awards dinner held February 7 at The Country Club of Orlando.
Nonprofit Works to Protect Gus Wortham GC
Friends of Gus Wortham, Inc., is moving forward with efforts to gain conservancy status to protect the Houston, Texas golf course from redevelopment. The group has solicited donations for short-term improvements to the course and is planning an estimated $9.2 million makeover that would fix the grounds, create a new entrance to the facility, renovate the parking area, build a new clubhouse and add a new restroom and maintenance facility.

By creating more appealing purposes for existing space, bringing new features and efficiencies to current structures, or starting from scratch with a state-of-the-art property, more of “tomorrow’s” clubs and resorts are fast becoming part of the current scene.
Scannell, Carroll to Judge Dubai Culinary Competition
Executive Chefs Dan Scannell, Oak Hill Country Club, and Charles Carroll, River Oaks Country Club, will serve on a 10-judge panel for the inaugural Dubai World Hospitality Championship. Scannell and his team were featured in C&RB’s September 2013 cover story and Carroll will provide the keynote address at the 2014 Chef to Chef Conference in San Antonio.

Former Olympian Buys Twin Rivers GC
Bob Richards, an Olympic pole-vaulting champion, bought the Waco, Texas club for $1.1 million, not long after buying Lake Waco Golf Club in January for $1.4 million. Richards and his sons plan to hold a membership drive for the club, as well as address flooding problems, tend to cosmetic improvements of the clubhouse, and potentially build a pavilion.
