Golf facilities in the region have reacted to the unstable industry by promoting league play on public and semi-private courses, and have slashed budgets, cut back on course maintenance, and reduced fees in an effort to attract and retain new members.
Former Owner Buys Greystone GC
John Odenbach, who previously served as CEO of the Dolomite Group, has purchased the Walworth, N.Y., club from the Dolomite Group, with the help of a group of investors. Odenbach said the club has sentimental value to his family, and he plans to keep it public while making facility improvements.
Sauk Centre (Minn.) CC Buys GreyStone GC
In an effort to bolster membership, Sauk Centre CC will move to the nearby GreyStone property to take advantage of its 18-hole golf course, with hopes of attracting more tournaments and business gatherings. A developer has purchased the former Sauk Centre CC property with plans to build patio homes along the nine-hole golf course.
