Glenview Prairie Club to Reposition Tee Markers After Errant Ball Incident
In June, Mayta Spitz said she was hit in the neck by a golf ball that flew through her open window as she drove past the Glenview, Ill., golf course. The Park District Risk Management Agency reviewed the incident and the property will reposition the fifth hole tee markers, post permanent signs warning about stray balls, and plant more trees and shrubs along the course “to provide more screening.”
Rust-Oleum Championship Moving to Ivanhoe Club
The Web.com Tour event, played for its first two years at Lakewood CC in Westlake, Ohio, will now be held at the club in the northwest Chicago suburbs, near the sponsor’s corporate headquarters. A three-year agreement is in place, starting with this year’s event from June 6-12. A new event, the DAP Championship, will be played at Canterbury GC in Cleveland.

Glenview (Ill.) Park GC Reopens
After being closed for nearly a year to regrade fairways, improve turf conditions, reseed tees and renovate bunkers, the public golf course reopened on July 24. The property has also added on-course clocks to improve pace of play, and renovated the clubhouse with an updated cafe, golf shop and restrooms.
Matt Ceplo Named to Audubon International Board of Directors
The golf course superintendent at Rockland Country Club in Sparkill, N.Y., has been elected to the Board of the not-for-profit organization, succeeding Dan Dinelli. Under Ceplo’s leadership, Rockland CC earned Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program certification in 2000, and became a member of the New York State environmental leaders program in 2013.
Glenview (Ill.) Park GC to Open Renovation Bids February 12
At least six companies have shown interest in submitting bids on four separate packages to renovate the club’s golf course, with a pre-bid budget estimated at $4.5 million. The project, which will include moving tees, expanding holes, and improving stormwater management, is proposed to start in July 2014, with the facility scheduled to re-open in 2015.

A meeting to discuss the master plan and hole-by-hole breakdown for the $4.2 million renovation drew a crowd of more than 100 people. The main points of the plan involve replacing almost all grass and turf, grading the fairways and greens, planting eco-friendly native plant species, and creating a continuous path throughout the entire course.
Glenview (Ill.) Park GC Schedules $4.2M Stormwater Project
In an effort to slow stormwater runoff that contributes to flooding at neighborhood properties during big storms, a project that will also improve play at the 18-hole golf course is scheduled to start next July. When work is finished, the area would hold about 7.1 million gallons of water, more than three times the land’s current capacity, restricting the flow of water to nearby homes by more than 70%.
