The San Marcos, Texas facility has been closed since October 2015 due to $1.2 million in flood damage. The university has decided not to repair and reopen the golf course, instead constructing recreational fields on the site over the next three to five years.

Drone footage of Raveneaux Country Club in Spring, Texas shows about two-thirds of the 18-hole layout under water, after nearly 20 inches of rain fell on some parts of southeast Texas. Champions Golf Club, River Oaks Country Club, and Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston and Bluejack National Golf Club in Montgomery were each impacted by the rain, to varying degrees.
Myrtle Beach Golf Courses Report $2.3M Loss Due to Floods
Historic flooding in South Carolina resulted in 80 golf courses losing out on 32,000 rounds of golf, according to the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association. While the flooding closed courses in October, the perception that the state was underwater also kept business down during the winter.
Colorado, Florida Take Steps to Acquire Golf Course Properties
Voters have approved a tax increase to help the Prospect Recreation and Park District purchase and improve Applewood Golf Course in Golden, Colo., to prevent it from being redeveloped. In Port Richey, Fla., the county purchased the abandoned Timber Oaks Golf Course with the aim to build a network of storm-water ponds to ease flooding troubles.

The National Weather Service registered nearly 24 inches of rain in Longs, S.C., over the course of five days. Aberdeen Country Club is expected to be closed 10 days or more and could have flood damage to buildings, structures and cart paths, while other properties are waiting for the standing water to subside.

The club is estimating that repairs to its 12-court tennis complex will cost $10,000 after heavy rains last week caused knee-level flooding. After pressure-washing the asphalt courts and bringing in 24 tons of synthetic clay to recover the others, the complex should reopen next week.

Ducks are swimming in the puddles created on hole 16 of the Portland, Ore., club, after rainwater and snowmelt have pushed nearby Rock Creek over its banks. Flooding is a yearly occurrence for the property, and golfers are being kept on the front nine until the water recedes.
City to Take Over Management of Coal Creek GC
The Louisville (Colo.) City Council voted unanimously to bring management of the city-owned golf course in-house after ending its agreement with Western Golf Properties, which has managed the facility for 12 years. Flooding in September caused an estimated $3.5 million in damage to the course, which washed out up to 40 bunkers, damaged 14 greens and 14 tee boxes, destroyed three bridges and took out much of the course’s irrigation system.
Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort Recovers After Flash Flood
Four inches of rain in two hour’s time drowned the resort in rock, mud and silt on August 25, and the water ruined two of its three pump stations, damaged irrigation lines, ruined one of the facility’s two large practice areas and washed out the road to the clubhouse. The resort has worked to reopen its three Pete Dye golf courses, with one already open and the others scheduled for November 1 and January 1.
Flood Damage Estimated at $1M for Estes Park, Colo., Golf Courses
Estes Park Golf Course and the Lake Estes Executive Golf Course are repairing flood damage four weeks after raging waters washed away portions of roads, sewer lines, and infrastructure. In Venice, Fla., Lake Venice Golf Course is also struggling with flooding, but is blaming contractors for drainage issues.
Colorado Floods Ravage Golf Courses
Stacy Kleve, the head pro at Pelican Lakes and Pelican Falls golf courses, is optimistic about the recovery of the Windsor, Colo., properties, with staff springing into cleanup mode last week. “This is the worst flood I’ve seen here,” Kleve said. “You just can’t do anything until the water recedes. It is a completely helpless feeling.”
