Benvenue CC Celebrates 95 Years

After struggling through the downturn, the Rocky Mount, N.C. club with a Donald Ross-designed course is now on sound financial ground with membership again trending upward, according to General Manager Michele Benton. The club, which elected its first female President this year, is scheduled to host the N.C. Senior Women’s Golf Association tournament in the fall of 2019.

The four-month, $650,000 project at Mangrove Bay GC in St. Petersburg, Fla., re-grassed all 18 greens and three practice greens with Platinum Paspalum, and re-sodded collars using 419 Bermuda. Bellaire (Fla.) CC, recognized as home to Florida’s first course, will renovate its two Donald Ross-designed 18-hole courses over the next five years.


Silver Creek CC to Stay Private After Sale to Developer

Two years after David Spirk reached an agreement with the member-owned Hellertown, Pa. club to build townhomes on excess land on the property, members voted to sell to him, with a commitment that Silver Creek, which has an 83-year history and a Donald Ross-designed golf course, would stay private and receive at least $2.5 million in capital improvements.
