Mike Keiser’s plans to build up to five golf courses between Wisconsin Rapids and Adams-Friendship has community leaders scrambling to improve infrastructure and amenities. This week, town officials from Rome, Wis., site of Sand Valley Golf Resort, are visiting Bandon, Ore., home to Keiser’s Bandon Dunes, to prepare for the inevitable growing pains that will come from the development.
Stevens Point (Wis.) CC On Road Back After Losing 2,000 Trees
The results of a $3 million renovation of the club’s golf course was previewed on April 1, culminating the recovery from trees lost from a chemical used for broadleaf weed control three years earlier. A clubhouse renovation and new pool area are also expected to be completed this season for the 300-member club.
Stevens Point (Wis.) CC Gets $3M Facelift
After a chemical used for broadleaf weed control led to the loss of over 2,000 trees, a long-overdue course renovation was begun that will include new bunkers and tees along with a new irrigation system and widening of fairways.
Sand Valley Project Underway
Bandon Dunes developer Mike Keiser purchased 1,500 acres of land for the project in Rome, Wis., in December, and has selected Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw to design the first golf course. Clearing and rough shaping of the land will begin this year, with construction scheduled to begin in 2015, preview play for the founders in 2016, and public play in 2017.
Bandon Dunes Developer Plans Wisconsin Resort
Mike Keiser, the Chicago businessman who transformed Bandon, Ore., into a premier golf destination, is planning to build Sand Valley, a multi-course resort on sand dunes in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Keiser has signed an agreement to purchase 2.4 square miles of land with a closing date of December 17, at which point he is expected to name the architect for the first course.
