Troon to Manage Columbia (Mo.) CC
The 96-year-old club that was the first private club in the city that is home to the University of Missouri’s main campus will now be managed by the Troon Privé Division of the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based management firm.

Lake of The Woods GC Plans Clubhouse Renovation
The $90,000 project at the Columbia, Mo., club will include new fixtures for ceiling lights, a smaller front desk, carpet-free restrooms, and a larger storage area for retail and concession items. The clubhouse will close in the winter and reopen in the spring.

GM Panel Culminates 2014 Chef to Chef Conference
The final session at this year’s event in San Antonio brought together four General Managers who engaged in a discussion about creating productive relationships between GMs and Executive Chefs. Participating GMs included John McGee, Northwood Club, Dallas, Texas; Phil Kiester, The Country Club of Virginia, Richmond, Va.; Christine Pooler, Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, Pa.; and Eric Dietz, Interlachen Country Club, Minneapolis, Minn.
2014 Chef to Chef Conference Wraps Up First Full Day of Sessions
With a record number of registrants in attendance, the sixth annual Chef to Chef Conference kicked off its first full day with local flavor from San Antonio-based Chef Johnny Hernandez. A reception at the Culinary Institute of America completed the day’s planned events, leaving chefs free to explore the city for dinner.
Lake of the Woods GC Seeks Public Input on Project
The Columbia (Mo.) Parks and Recreation Department will meet to discuss plans to add a new shelter to the golf course’s grounds in May 2014. The project, which is budgeted at $120,000 funded entirely from the golf course’s profits, will situate the structure on the west side of the existing clubhouse, and will accommodate up to 120 people attending tournaments.
ASGCA Announces Design Excellence Recipients
The American Society of Golf Course Architects named 12 recipients of the 2013 Design Excellence Recognition Program. “In each case, golf course owners, managers and superintendents faced challenges unique to them, including the landscape, environment or business situation. And, in each case, they met the challenges by working with ASGCA members,” said ASGCA Vice President Lee Schmidt.
Columbia (Mo.) CC Reopens Golf Course
Since reopening on July 27, the club has seen a 10 percent increase in membership. The project included rebuilding or rerouting ten holes, renovating the remaining eight holes as well as the practice facility, and restoring 2,000 feet of an Army Corps of Engineers jurisdictional stream on two holes, adding to the course’s environmental benefits.
